Regulatory Compliance Isn't Everything

Congratulations...you might be one of the few businesses around that is not burdened by a regulatory compliance duty. But if you think you are off the hook as far as thorough data protection is concerned, think again. We live in a litigious society, and in such a society, legal processes such as discovery have gone digital. Electronic discovery, also known as ediscovery sometimes written as "e-discovery", is the legal process in which electronically stored information is reviewed, processed, and presented for the purposes of litigation. Discoverable electronic information is stored in databases, in emails or instant messages, and in unstructured documents or files.

Depending on the type of litigation, ediscovery may require some or all types of content in your installation. Ediscovery solutions available in the market focus predominantly on files, documents and especially email. While databases are equally important in some kinds of litigation, few vendors in the market support structured data as part of an overall comprehensive ediscovery platform. The challenge posed to IT organizations is how to architect a solution in the data center that will meet all the legal requirements, support all data types, while keeping costs in check.
